Since its arrival to the Slovak market in 1991, the German carmaker invested more than 4.5 billion euros, with the announcement of one billion euros a few days ago. A similar amount, 800 million euros, was invested fairly recently in 2017. The subject of that investment was a production hall for the luxury SUV model Porsche Cayenne. In addition to the aforementioned Cayenne model, the plant currently also produces the Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7 and Q8, and just a few weeks ago, the Karoq model from the Czech manufacturer Škoda was added to the production. The VW also produces small city vehicles, such as Volkswagen up!, Seat Mii and Škoda Citigo.

The Korean automobile manufacturer, who came to the Slovak market in 2004, is the only one to have its own engine plant. Kia came to Slovakia in 2004 and started its vehicle production two years later, producing the incredibly successful Sportage SUV, the Ceed model in various versions and the MPV Venga was produced here until 2017. Kia’s overall investment in Slovakia is 1.8 billion euros. Their investments focus on strategic modes such as Sportage and Ceed, which are not only current, but they are also partially electric.  Significant investment was also made towards the engine production facility.

The arrival of the British car manufacturer (part of the Indian TATA Motors) could quite comfortably be described as an investment of the decade. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) decided to enter the Slovak market in 2016, and they started their vehicle production in 2018. The company invested over 1.4 billion euros in Slovakia, resulting in the largest plant in the brand’s portfolio to date. The manufacturing plant in Nitra builds the luxury SUV models Discovery and Defender.

A major investor who entered the Slovak market in 2003 and started their vehicle production in 2006 is the French automobile manufacturer ‘The PSA Group’. The PSA Group owns Peugeot and Citroën brands. In total, the group has invested one billion euros in Slovakia and is producing the popular Citroën C3 a Peugeot 208 models.
